EUDR and the Coffee Industry: How an ESG Platform Assures Compliance
The European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) represents a significant step in the
global effort to combat deforestation linked to agricultural commodities. In the future, only
products sourced from areas not affected by deforestation or forest degradation after the cut-
off date of December 31, 2020, will be allowed on the EU market or for export from the EU.
Coffee is one of the seven commodities covered by the regulation. To prove that supply chains
are deforestation-free, traceability, risk assessments, and detailed documentation will
become essential for the industry.
Industry-Specific Challenges for Coffee Companies
Tracing coffee beans back to individual farms and obtaining all relevant data, including
geolocation coordinates, is often difficult, especially given the role of smallholder farmers in
coffee production. The common practice of mixing beans from multiple farms during
processing further complicates traceability, as businesses must ensure that each batch
complies with the regulation.
Many coffee producers, especially those in regions where access to digital tools is limited, may
struggle to meet the EUDR’s documentation and data requirements. Smallholders will face
increased costs associated with certifications, audits, and compliance measures, adding
pressure to already tight margins.
To comply with the EUDR, coffee businesses must meet strict standards for traceability, risk
assessment, and documentation. While these requirements are complex, the right tools and
software solutions can streamline the process and ensure efficient compliance.
Automating EUDR Compliance with the osapiens HUB
To address these industry-specific challenges, osapiens has developed a comprehensive
solution for EUDR compliance on its ESG platform. The osapiens HUB for EUDR automates and
streamlines the entire compliance process, from data collection to risk assessment and the
creation of due diligence statements. It helps organizations and their value chains become
more transparent, efficient and sustainable.
The solution facilitates the collection of necessary data, including geolocation information and
supplier documentation, ensuring businesses can trace every batch of coffee back to its
source. By utilizing satellite data, track & trace technology and AI-driven risk analysis, the
osapiens HUB enables real-time risk assessments, helping companies to quickly identify and
mitigate potential deforestation, import and other risks.
By including all relevant stakeholders – from smallholder farmers to large companies – the
platform enables collaboration toward a deforestation-free supply chain. This approach
redefines shared value by aligning economic success with environmental responsibility,
guiding the coffee industry toward a net positive future.
Alongside risk management, the osapiens HUB automates the preparation and submission of
due diligence statements, ensuring that all compliance documentation is accurately submitted
to the deforestation registry created by the European Commission. This reduces the
administrative burden and minimizes the risk of error, allowing businesses to focus on
maintaining the integrity of their supply chains.
Preparing for the EUDR with Confidence
As the EUDR approaches, it’s essential for coffee companies to be equipped with the right
tools to ensure compliance. osapiens provides a holistic and robust solution, helping
businesses meet regulatory requirements while enhancing supply chain transparency and
efficiency. By automating critical processes and fostering collaboration among all
stakeholders, the platform enables coffee companies to navigate EUDR compliance, ensuring
they are prepared for the challenges ahead.

THE WORLD OF COFFEE CAPSULES MEETS ITS REVOLUTION
We present the innovation of the future:
KAPHITECH’s patented compact encapsulating machine.
At TriestEspresso Expo, KAPHITECH is excited to present its revolutionary compact coffee encapsulating machine.
This unique system combines advanced automation, compact design and sustainability, directly producing coffee capsules from roasted coffee beans and thus representing the last frontier in coffee capsule production.
In fact, the capsules are produced at the same place and at the same time that the coffee beans – of any blend you could wish for, including the finest ones – are ground.
KAPHITECH machine is distinguished by its small dimensions: with a width and depth of just 50 cm and a height of less than 80 cm, it integrates all the advanced technologies required for a fully automated process.
Complete automation and state-of-the-art technology
KAPHITECH encapsulating machine autonomously manages the entire production cycle: from roasted coffee beans to the ready-to-use capsule.
Thanks to a rotating base, the empty capsules are transported to the various stations where the coffee powder, ground on the spot, is dosed precisely.
The sealing of the capsules using ultrasonic technology ensures an airtight seal, maintaining the freshness of the coffee.
The process ends with the automatic ejection of the sealed capsule ready for use.
Sustainability at the centre
KAPHITECH machine is not only synonymous with technological innovation, but also with sustainability.
The capsules and sealing films used are compostable, so as to minimise environmental impact.
Furthermore, since the process starts with the coffee beans and ends with the ready-made capsules, the need to transport ground coffee is eliminated, thus reducing emissions related to logistics and distribution.
This system therefore allows roasters to produce and sell the capsules directly at the milling site, guaranteeing a fresh and sustainable product.
Exclusive patent and uniqueness
The KAPHITECH encapsulating machine is an idea protected by an industrial patent, making it an exclusive solution in the market.
This patent certifies the originality of the system, giving producers a unique competitive advantage.
An opportunity not to be missed
Roasters, investors and all industry professionals are invited to discover the potential of the KAPHITECH machine from 24 to 26 October 2024 at our stand at the
TriestEspresso Expo (Hall 27, Stand 7).
Here, you will be able to see for yourself how this machine represents a perfect synthesis of innovation, technology, compact design and sustainability.

The new collection at TriestEspresso Expo
NEWS
Two years of research, two patents and a revolutionary aesthetic: these are the characterizing elements of the new La San Marco Coffee Grinder Collection presented at TriestEspresso Expo Hall 28 bis – Stand 20
Not a line but a real collection, designed to improve barista working conditions and respond to the growing demand for waste reduction.
At TriestEspresso Expo, the B2B fair entirely focused on coffee that will take place from October 24 to 26 at Trieste’s Porto Vecchio, La San Marco will present its new coffee grinders, characterized by the design curated by Milan-based Studio Bonetto, which is modern and eye-catching, and by the ergonomic shape that recalls the D. machine, among the latest ones.
What will make them unique will be several elements. First of all, technology, given the two patents developed by La San Marco engineers, which took two years to complete. The first is related to the design of the ferrule made of technopolymers and metal nanoparticles with micrometric and continuous adjustment of the distance between the grinds. This innovative ferrule allows total control and customization of extraction, thus interpreting the wishes of the most demanding baristas and coffee experts present in every corner of the world. The second patent allowed for the realization of the vibrating conveyor in on-demand models, which allows for previously unknown dosing accuracy.
Finally, the structure made with the metal frame, combined with aesthetic body components that can be customized in color and replaced later, preserving all the internal electronic and mechanical components, thus contributing to environmental sustainability.
With the new collection, an essential tool in the bartender’s work becomes an essential piece of furniture and machine to increasingly improve the espresso yield in terms of “flavor.”
TriestEspresso Expo will also be a show with La San Marco machines.
Baristas from all over Italy and abroad will compete in the Lever Speed Contest and the Lever Sensory Contest.
The latter will bring the lever machine into the Sensory world: with the La San Marco Leva Luxury Multiboiler, baristas will compete to make the espresso with the best sensory profile, which will then be evaluated by a jury of coffee experts.Competitors will be given a blend at the time of the competition that they will interpret to the best of their ability, checking the ideal pressure profile using the display with which the Leva Luxury Multiboiler machine is equipped.A test that will also allow the public to immerse themselves in the world of precision coffee. Both Contests are organized by the Associazione Maestri dell’Espresso Napoletano. In the control booth, in addition to contest patron Francesco Costanzo, this time there will also be coffee experts Andrej Godina and Mauro Illiano.
